DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Breguet à Paris, triple-figure carillon-striking automaton, three hammers striking on two gongs, 59mm, 18K rose gold OF original consular case with Swiss markings, maker P&S, another indistinct crowned mark with possible French bigorne mark over it, rope-twist band, Breguet signed gilt spring-loaded cuvette, KWKS, WED chapter at center of skeletonized repeat mechanism and figures in multicolor gold, jaquemarts to either side with cupid at base, fusee with verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, case #852. It is known that the Breguet firm marketed watches from other makers, this being of the quality and type handled, and that Breguet spent his exile in Switzerland where he must have made many contacts during the Revolution. Unfortunately, records only exist for watches made in the Breguet workshops, not for the items of other manufacture. Gross weight of assembled watch 81.1 dwt (126.2 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, staff seems unbroken but does not move freely, fusee simply turns, assume broken or absent chain, excellent mvt condition overall; repeat functions well but rather quickly, the hour hammer making good contact, the other two hammers just missing and needing only adjustment; dial perfect save for infinitesimal edge microfleck; hands excellent; figural work very beautiful, might shine more after cleaning; case shows little wear, few MFS, no dents or dings to back but some in band, crisp detail; bow very tight, pendant shows little wear; good domed glass crystal over domed bored crystal dust-proofing the skeleton area.
